JEANNE BURKE WIERDA:   ABOUT……….

Jeanne has always taken the ‘road less travelled’ in developing her portfolio: painting and drawing her own themes, as well as painting Commissioned work for private clientele … (E.B.)

Jeanne, with a BA in Fine Arts and Art Education from SUNY – State University of New York, completed her art education while following her spouse’s corporate career and raising their son. This involved a journey through many states and a myriad of Studios, Galleries, and Exhibitions of Fine Art, both in US and abroad.

She has held the position of Admin involving text/formula input for Scientist, Engineers, Contractors and Proposal Writers for a high security operation, Hughes Optical.  Hughes Optical is the Windows Design Team for the Hubble Space Telescope.

Jeanne also donates her time to work with AIDS Support groups and Shelters.

She is an artist who sees the world through a looking glass of her own devising.  “There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion” wrote Francis Bacon, (English philosopher, 1561 – 1626). This quote led her to studies of another English Francis Bacon (artist, 1928 – 1992), who has said “The job of the artist is to always deepen the mystery”. Which brings her full circle back to Lewis Carroll and John Tenniel, and a similar sort of disproportion she favored in her youth.

Jeanne developed her artistic sense which honors her late Mother (of 11). Her Mother provided all with the very best of early Art Education … (E.B.).  Jeanne could proceed with all the Theories and Principles and History she learned in Fine Art ED., but that is a given. She would rather explain the Human Element of her work!

I try to depict my artwork models and subjects in situations spontaneous to them, so that they comfortably become the focal point of figurative expressionistic painting/drawing.  By comfortable, I mean, be they:      Female or Male, LGBT or Q, Black or White or one of the many Hues and Tones in the Crayola box!!

In my “HUMANSCAPES” series, visual statements are of emotive Color and Form exploring, in Figurative and Abstract Expressionism, Beauty and Struggle; that may have been overlooked in the hectic pace of today’s challenges. I am hoping that these visual statements will lead to provocative thought. In this 21st century, we must all forage for better answers to old dilemmas!!  We must ask WHY all the misunderstanding among Mankind?? We must be there for our brothers and sistas with all we have to offer!!

I hope viewers will compose their own narratives while viewing mine; and most importantly, in viewing the manner and emotion portrayed by my subjects, DEVELOP EMPATHY!! We must FEEL for each other to overcome ETHNOCENTRICITY and GROW OUR ETHNICITIES CLOSER!!

One Love… (A.C.) ………………………………………………………………Jeanne Burke Wierda
